Circle of Security® Parent Process Groups Training

We believe that the parent-child relationship is the bedrock of the success of a family and each individual within the family.

Circle of Security is one of the most effective ways to address the parent-child relationship.

Circle of Security® (COS) is an evidence-based and internationally acclaimed group process that engages the wisdom of parents and caregivers as they read and respond to their child’s emotional needs.

Rather than focusing on behaviors, COS is different from many other approaches because it focuses on children’s needs and the caregiver’s state of mind. Rather than prescribing a set of skills to use with children, COS explores the attachment needs of a child, how these needs are expressed and how parents feel, think, and interact with their children while in this attachment circle. It provides space and community to both learn about the attachment cycle as well as reflect on their own experiences (both present and past) that impact their parenting.

While Circle of Security® is designed for caretakers of children from prenatal to 5 years of age, the creators state that it is useful for caretakers of children of all ages and are currently working on content specific to parents of adolescents. Family Hope House has found, per participant report, that COS is extremely beneficial regardless of the child’s age.

Testimonial

After just a few weeks of Circle of Security, I felt like I was a calmer parent and more in love with both of my children. Instead of giving me a lot of specific techniques I could never measure up to, the FHH therapist helped me better understand my children’s behaviors and my role as a mama. Our family is better because of what I learned in Circle.
